Happy New Year

Happy New Year!!! I hope you enjoyed your holiday break! I spent my break with family and friends. I ate yummy food, talked with family and I did not do a single ounce of work!!!

As we get back into the swing of things with school I always like to prepare for my intervention groups. Differentiation is key when working with a classroom. Every student has different needs. I always use Word Their Way to help me differentiate my groups.

Once I created groups, I found that I was always searching for resources so, I made a bunch of my own. You can grab hundreds of these resources here. The Friday Freebie for this week comes from the Emergent Stage from Words Their Way.

In the Emergent Stage, students work on the very basics of literacy. Letter sounds, letter formation, concept sorts, syllables, sentence structure, and so much more.

This week's Friday freebie is a series of concepts sorts. I love to use these with pre-K students or kindergarten students. This is a great way to get to know students and their ability level. This is the very foundation before even learning letter sounds and letter names. These concept sorts are also a great tool for special education students!

In these sorts students categorize pictures based on the heading. For example, I have a hot vs cold sort and a fast versus slow sort. These activities are great for centers or great for you to use for an assessment for students with special needs.

This is just one of the fun activities that can be found in the Emergent Stage of Words Their Way series! You can grab the freebie below or grab the entire pack here! Happy Teaching!
